Delhi : The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the event's organizers, have not yet released the whole list of attendees for the nation's largest auto show, but insiders have informed FE that electric cars (EVs) would predominate, with as many as 30 pure EV OEM participation.

24 of these will be two- and three-wheelers. These companies include Tork Motors, Okinawa Autotech, Hero Eco Tech, Ultraviolette, Wardwizard, Greaves Cotton, and several others. There will be three EV-only OEMs for passenger vehicles (BYD India, Vayve Mobility, and Pravaig Dynamics), and three EV-only OEMs for commercial vehicles (Omega Seiki, Hexall Motors and Jupiter Electric Mobility).

There were half as many pure EV OEM participants at the last Auto Expo (in 2020), and some of those came from China, which has since closed down.

A wide variety of EVs will be displayed on the pavilions of even OEMs of non-pure EV passenger vehicles. Hyundai India, for instance, will display its all-electric Ioniq 5 vehicle. There will be a sizable number of EV models on the pavilions of MG Motor and Tata Motors. Maruti Suzuki, which doesn't currently offer an EV, will showcase an electric concept SUV.

Auto shows are becoming into mobility exhibits around the world, and India may also see this trend. This opens the field for OEMs across segments together with start-ups showing developments in EVs, other fuels, battery, navigation, linked technologies, and other mobility sectors.

He also said that EVs and multimodal transportation solutions will be the main attractions at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit (in September 2022). The Auto Expo 2023 is expected to meet similar expectations. Motor events in general need to change to be relevant to the mobility ecosystem. Otherwise, we may see a trend where EV and mobility technology names migrate elsewhere, as many global mobility companies have moved from pure motor displays to the CES (Consumer Electronics Show).

Electric two-wheeler sales, which currently total approximately a million units per month, are still less than 10% of all two-wheeler sales, but they have been steadily increasing. Sales of electric two-wheelers have climbed, 44,844 units in July 2022 to the highest-ever 76,458 units in October and 76,438 units in November.

At the Auto Expo 2023, new-age start-ups in the mobility industry and electric vehicles (EVs) are anticipated to garner attention. Since this will be the first Auto Expo after the epidemic, there has been a lot of interest in the business, and important figures from the EV ecosystem are likely to attend.  This will be the first time the show will include a sizable number of EV companies, in comparison to past Auto Expo editions, because the EV business (for passenger cars) has had an unprecedented increase in India over the last two years, which was also the epidemic phase.

Sales of EVs for passenger cars have also been increasing, more than doubling from 2,150 units in April 2022 to 5,376 units in November, but they still account for a small portion of overall sales (in November, for example, 276,231 passenger vehicles were sold).

A road safety campaign, antique automobile display, and cartist (a pavilion showing artefacts/art made from old vehicles and vehicle components) will all be present at the Auto Expo 2023.
