Delhi : An electric Thar has been teased by Mahindra and Mahindra. The concept vehicle, to be known as Thar.e, will make its public premiere on August 15 in Cape Town, South Africa, at an event dubbed Futurescape, where Mahindra will also be presenting a global tractor platform and a pick-up truck concept.

Currently, not much is known about the Thar.e. However, it can be anticipated that Mahindra will either build the Thar.e on an entirely new dedicated electric skateboard platform or repurpose the Thar's current platform to add batteries and electric motors. Future electric SUVs from Mahindra will be built on the company's existing electric platform named INGLO.

Given that the Thar is an off-road vehicle and has four-wheel drive, Mahindra's decision to outfit its electric version with a dual-motor system, where one motor is mounted on the front axle and the second one is mounted on the rear axle, makes sense. After all of that, a true quad-motor system would be the cherry on top. This implies that each wheel will have a separate electric motor to individually control the torque and traction while off-roading.

The rear tail lamp, whose design is similar to the present Thar, is also hinted to in the teaser. It is a square unit that has a smaller square within, then. Given this, it is reasonable to assume that the Thar's existing design language will mostly remain unchanged with a few minor tweaks here and there so that it can be distinguished from the Thar.e version of the Thar.

Aside from that, it's crucial to remember that Mahindra is only displaying the concept version of the Thar.e; the production-spec version won't be available for another couple of years. Speaking of concepts, Mahindra will also present a pick-up truck concept, which is anticipated to be built on the same platform as the future Thar 5-door and Scorpio N. Once more, we are unsure of the launch date for the pickup truck's production-spec model.
