Delhi : Maruti Suzuki eVX SUV concept, which will steal the show at the 2023 Auto Expo, has been introduced. The Maruti Suzuki eVX concept is a preview of the automaker's upcoming first-ever all-electric SUV (Codename: YV8), which is expected to go on sale in 2025 and compete with the Creta EV.

Maruti Suzuki eVX SUV, born-EV platform, and long wheelbase

Maruti Suzuki's initial informational release confirms that a specific EV design would be used to construct the company's next worldwide electric SUV. Toyota will collaborate on the development of this new platform and will also make its own SUV. Thanks to this new platform, Maruti claimed that the company would develop a "variety of potential full-EV automobiles" in the next years. A production-spec For India and a few other foreign markets, Gujarat will produce the Toyota Prius and the Maruti YV8 SUV.

The new SUV will be almost identical in dimensions to the Creta of the current generation at 4,300mm length, 1,800mm wide, and 1,600mm height. These exact specs have been given by Maruti. We can confirm that this new SUV will have a 2,700mm wheelbase, and the born-EV architecture is expected to result in a groundbreaking interior space.

Maruti Suzuki eVX SUV's look reflects a modern design ethos.

The eVX concept car exhibited at the Auto Expo has a very distinct design from Maruti's current IC (internal combustion engine) line. A squared-off grille, a tall bonnet with a flat snout, and V-shaped headlights with characteristic LED daytime running lamps are all features of the Maruti eVX concept car.

The concept vehicle features extremely short overhangs, high ground clearance, projecting wheel arches, and a rough cladding that covers the SUV's sides, front, and back. Due to the way the sloping roofline mixes in with the slanted back windscreen and the tailgate, it has a coupe-SUV aspect. Low-profile tyres from the concept car will probably be swapped out for more conventional ones in the finished product. The aerodynamic wheel design of Tesla is mirrored in the alloy wheels.

Maruti Suzuki's eVX SUV: powertrain and range

The new eVX SUV idea would have a 60kWh battery and a 550km range, according to Maruti. As we wrote last year, the production version of this SUV is expected to have a battery with a similar capacity and a real-world range of roughly 500 kilometres. There will also be a more cost-effective model with a battery capacity of around 48 kWh and a real-world range of about 400 km. According to Maruti, the parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, has committed to investing Rs 100 billion in India to support the development of battery electric vehicles.

More details are likely to become public as the 2025 global debut of Maruti's first-ever EV SUV draws near.
