Tata Harrier and Tata Safari upgraded: Tata confirms 1.5L Turbo-Petrol engine

Delhi : New Harrier and Safari models from Tata Motors were just released. There is now a 2-liter diesel engine available for both SUVs. But in roughly a year, the car manufacturer intends to provide a turbo-petrol engine alternative.

At Auto Expo 2023, Tata Motors debuted their brand-new 1.5-liter TGDi 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. This engine produces 168 horsepower and 280 torque, and it may be mated to either a dual-clutch automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Tata Motors would be able to sell the Harrier and Safari for a little less money if they included a petrol engine. The Harrier series currently starts at Rs 15.49 lakh, while the Safari is priced (ex-showroom) at Rs 16.19 lakh.

Mid-size SUVs from competitors like Mahindra, MG, and Hyundai are already available in petrol form. A 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine powers the Scorpio-N and XUV700, while a 1.5-liter engine powers the MG Hector. Additionally, a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine is available for the Hyundai Alcazar.

Surprisingly though, Tata Motors did not include the function in the facelifts of the Safari and Harrier that were just released. Although the automaker admits it's still fine-tuning its calibration, early adopters of the new SUVs may rest easy knowing that a software update will eventually bring it to the first batch of vehicles.

The addition of lane-keep assist is expected to enhance the safety quotient of the Safari and Harrier combination, which has already achieved the highest ratings for any vehicle evaluated under the Safer Cars for India program and a 5-star Global NCAP certification for adult and passenger protection.
