Delhi : Recently, the Tesla Model Y accomplished the astounding achievement of surpassing all other cars sold worldwide for a quarter. The Tesla Model Y ranked #1 in terms of sales during the first quarter of 2023, using statistics gathered by JATO from 53 regions across the world. The Model Y is the first all-electric vehicle to accomplish this feat as a result of this accomplishment.

Tesla Model Y overtook other well-known vehicles, like the Toyota Corolla and Toyota RAV4, during Q1 2023 to establish itself as the most popular automobile worldwide. During this time, Tesla sold an outstanding 267,200 units of the Model Y globally, a remarkable 69 percent increase over the same period the previous year. Notably, China, which has grown to be a crucial market for Tesla and has already surpassed its home market, the USA, in terms of importance, accounted for the bulk of Model Y sales.

Toyota Corolla rose to second place as the world's best-selling automobile over the same time period. The Corolla, in contrast to the Tesla Model Y, comes in a variety of body types, including sedan, station waggon, and hatchback. During this quarter, Toyota sold 256,400 Corollas around the globe, with sales in China declining by 29% and those in the USA by 10%.

The Tesla Model Y made its debut in March 2019, yet the current Toyota Corolla was introduced in March 2018. The Corolla is unavailable in India, much as the Model Y. Recent reports, however, suggest that Tesla is rethinking its approach to the Indian auto industry and wants to give local manufacture priority.

Along with the Corolla, Toyota models—such as the Hilux, RAV4, and Camry—dominate the remaining slots in the top five selling vehicle list. In India, you can already purchase the Hilux and Camry. Although the RAV4 has been seen testing on Indian roads, its formal introduction in India is doubtful given its higher price tag.

Notably, this is the first time an electric vehicle has overcome a vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine (ICE) to take the top spot in terms of global sales. The Model Y is a smaller and more economical crossover than the top-of-the-line Model X in Tesla's current lineup. Given the expanding popularity of SUVs and electric vehicles in India, if Tesla chooses to introduce the Model Y there, it may be a big addition to their inventory.
