Volvo's next big thing: Teaser drops for EM90 electric luxury MPV debut on November 12
Delhi : The teaser for the future EM90 luxury MPV, which will be the automaker's third all-electric model based on the born electric platform, has been released by Volvo Auto. On November 12, 2023, the Volvo EM90, which will share a platform with the EX90 and EX30, is expected to make its debut worldwide. The future EM90 will certainly be available in other nations as well, but it will largely target Chinese consumers.
Numerous characteristics between the Volvo EM90 electric luxury MPV and the Zeekr 009 MPV made by parent firm Geely are anticipated. Apart from the dual sunroofs, raked front windscreen, and upright tailgate with T-shaped LED taillights, the teaser image doesn't offer much about what we may anticipate. The folding doors are also visible, providing occupants a roomy chamber. The middle row's individual chairs are also shown in the teaser.
According to Volvo, the EM90 is a family vehicle that is "a Scandinavian living room on the move." While information on the engine is still lacking, it is likely that the electric MPV will use the same engine as the Zeekr 009. The latter can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 4.5 seconds and has a dual motor arrangement with 536 horsepower. It has a 140 kWh battery pack that should provide 817 km of range on a single charge. The 009 weighs roughly 3 tonnes, and the EM90 might be the same.
The design of the Volvo EM90 will be authentic to the Scandinavian brand, but the co-developed powertrain and battery should also allow the automaker to benefit from scale economies. Since the S60 sedan went on sale in 2019, Volvo's EM90 will be the brand's first MPV and first non-SUV model to enter production. It's possible that the EM90 will eventually reach the Indian market. The upcoming weeks will bring more information to light.
