Lexus' electric vision for India: Luxury brand's EV and used car plans
Delhi : The luxury automaker Lexus intends to introduce its first electric vehicle in India by 2025. According to a report citing Lexus India President Naveen Soni, the company, known for its self-charging hybrid vehicles, is getting ready to introduce its first electric vehicle in India in the next two years. To prepare for the debut of its electric vehicle in the nation, the carmaker is now conducting a market study.
In India, where German auto giants Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi rule the luxury automobile market, Lexus began doing business there six years ago but has yet to have a significant influence. In addition to other premium players, all three of the German luxury automobile manufacturers have previously debuted their EV offers in India.
With that in mind, Lexus is also seriously considering introducing its EV here. Soni mentioned that Lexus has imported a few vehicles in 2022 to test them in the various climatic conditions in India as well as to obtain customer input when discussing the automaker's electric vehicle plan. "As a result, we have excellent information regarding the patterns of behaviour in various markets, including summer conditions, testing circumstances, desert conditions, and all of that has been sent back to Japan. Our first EV product should perhaps arrive in this country by 2025, he said.
The brand's ambition to go completely electric internationally by 2035 will include the introduction of the pure electric car in India by 2025. Additionally, as the luxury division of Japanese auto giant Toyota, Lexus has been tasked with leading the group in electric technology, and with India being a crucial market for the company as a whole, this EV would be a vital offering from the automaker.
The automaker is also preparing to enter India's used automobile market, where luxury automakers like Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and BMW are already established thanks to their own pre-owned car business wings. The Japanese automaker plans to convert some of the sales outlets to serve the pre-owned automobile sector in addition to the 23 contact points across India where its product line is now sold.
Soni stated that after considering the dealer partner's financial feasibility, the company will launch the scheme in a few stores. As a result, he said, "I think very soon, by the third quarter or perhaps next year beginning." The Lexus representative also stated that the carmaker is closely examining the market. Cities with a significant automobile park would be our starting point, he continued.
