Delhi : Uber's fleet ride-sharing app has placed an order with Tata Motors for 25,000 of its XPres-T EVs. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two businesses states that Tata Motors would start delivering the vehicles to Uber fleet partners this month in stages. According to dealer sources, the company has quietly launched a 26kWh long-range XPres-T model that will be shipped to Uber.

This is a larger order than the last one, which included 10,000 XPres-T EVs, making it the largest EV fleet order ever placed by India. In seven Indian cities, Uber will use the XPres-T for its taxi services.

Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad are among the other cities. Offering clients our environmentally friendly EV travel experiences through Uber's Premium Category service will drive the adoption of green and clean personal ride sharing, according to Shailesh Chandra, MD, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Electric Mobility.

This is also in line with Uber's goal of having all trips taken by zero-emission vehicles, public transportation, or micromobility by the year 2040. In the passenger and fleet segments, Tata Motors has already shipped more than 50,000 EVs from its facility.

What exactly is a Tata XPres-T?

The fleet-exclusive Tigor EV was introduced as the XPres-T EV back in July 2021. It now features Tata's Ziptron high-voltage architecture, which makes use of a 75hp, 170Nm permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. The 26kWh and 25.5kWh batteries in the electric small sedan have ARAI-stated ranges of 315km and 277km, respectively. The 26kWh battery pack equipped XPres-T has the same driving range as the recently upgraded, passenger-only Tigor EV from November 2022.

Regarding charging, Tata states that using a DC charger, the 26kWh and 25.5kWh battery packs will be charged to 80% in 59 minutes and 110 minutes, respectively. The battery packs can also be charged using a 15A plug point in the meanwhile. The 26kWh XPres-T is priced at Rs 14.98 lakh (ex-showroom) and qualifies for a Rs 2.6 lakh subsidy through the FAME II programme.
