Jio data breach: Company says data safe, probe on

New Delhi : A data of over 120 million users in India was posted on a website by the name magicapk.com, claiming it to be leaked from Reliance Jio database. It is yet to be confirmed if the posted data is true or not.

Reliance Jio has refuted the claims and has said that the consumer data is safe; however, they have launched a probe into the matter.

The site has since gone offline and is no longer accessible.

A report by Indian Express says that some users were able to check their information and verified that details mentioned were true.

Fonearena.com editor Varun Krish told indianexpress.com that he was shocked when he was able to find details of himself and his colleagues.

While magicapk.com was running, there was just a search box where details of any Jio number can be dug out.

In a statement, a Reliance Jio spokesperson said prima facie the data appears to be unauthentic. “We want to assure our subscribers that their data is safe and maintained with the highest security. Data is only shared with authorities as per their requirement. We have informed law enforcement agencies about the claims of the website and will follow through to ensure strict action is taken,” the spokesperson said in a written response.

The site was registered by godaddy.com on May 18, 2017. The Whois data for the site is not available.
