New Delhi : In connection with illegal exchange of old currency notes with the new one, CBI on Saturday arrested two RBI senior officials for allegedly converting Rs 1.99 crore of demonetised currency with specified bank notes of Rs 2,000 and Rs 100.

Senior Special Assistant Sadananda Naika and Special Assistant A K Kavin of cash department were nabbed by CBI and are booked under charges of criminal conspiracy and cheating besides provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.

A special court in Bengaluru sent both the officials into four-day CBI custody.

"It is alleged that both the accused and other unknown officials of RBI, Bengaluru entered in criminal conspiracy with unknown others," CBI spokesperson Devpreet Singh said.

Earlier on December 13, CBI had arrested a RBI official for allegedly trying to convert Rs 1.5 crore of old currency notes.

The RBI had suspended senior special assistant K Michael and had ordered a probe into the incident.
