New Delhi : India has surpassed the United Kingdom to become the fifth largest economy in the world and with that people were seen cheering for the feat the tricolor nation has achieved. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor reacted to the development with happiness and a warning of not getting carried away.

Hours after a media report claimed that the United Kingdom has slipped to sixth position with India gaining the fifth spot in world economy index, Shashi Tharoor shared his reaction on social media. He tweeted a photo that read: "India, with a GDP of $854.7 billion has to manage a country with a population of 1,582,311,759,132... The UK's GDP of $816 billion has to account for a current population of 68,655,180."

He wrote in caption, "While many of us couldn’t resist a post-colonial frisson of pleasure at the news that India’s GDP has overtaken the United Kingdom’s, this forward explains why we shouldn’t get too carried away….still, a pat on our collective backs isn’t undeserved!"

India is currently aiming to become the third largest economy after the United States and China by 2030. For those who are not aware, a decade ago India was placed on the 11th position and the UK was already on the fifth position.
