All domestic, international passenger flights to remain suspended till May 3

New Delhi : All domestic and international passenger flights will remain suspended till May 3, 2020, said civil aviation ministry soon after PM Narendra Modi announced an extension of lockdown till May 3 to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Minister Hardeep Puri said that they can consider resuming flight services only after May 3.

All domestic and international scheduled Airlines operations shall remain suspended till 11.59 pm of May 3, the ministry said in a tweet.

"There were good reasons for the lockdown to be extended till 3rd May. We can consider lifting restrictions on both domestic and international flights thereafter. I understand the problems being faced by people who need to travel and request them to bear with us," Hardeep Puri tweeted soon after.

The flying sector is facing the maximum heat of coronavirus pandemic with airlines slashing the salaries of their employees or asking them to go on a sabbatical leave without pay.

Last week, there were some talks on resuming the flight services but that can happen only after the lockdown ends in the nation.
