CBSE NEET 2017 Latest News: SC to hear CBSE appeal against stay on NEET Results on June 12
New Delhi : The Supreme Court will hear the matter filed by Central Board of Secondary Education on Monday, June 12, 2017 regarding stay of CBSE NEET exam 2017 results imposed by the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court.
The CBSE made an urgent mention before the SC to lift the stay on the declaration of the results.Last month, the Madras High Court had stayed the publication of CBSE NEET results, directing the Medical Council of India, Health Ministry and the board to file counter affidavits.
The Central Board of Secondary Education or CBSE is also seeking the transfer of the matter from Madras and Gujarat High Court to the top court.
This year the Central Board of Secondary Education had conducted CBSE NEET Exam in English, Hindi and other local languages based on an SC directive.
Nine lakh students had taken the CBSE NEET exams in English while 1.5 lakh took the same in Hindi and other languages. The question papers for English and Hindi were the same, but in other languages it was different.
CBSE has argued that the purpose behind different question papers in vernacular languages was to prevent possible leak of the paper, resulting in cancellation of entire NEET.
Similarly, in Gujarat, candidates had moved the court saying that the test paper in Gujarati was tougher than English and that it should be scrapped.
CBSE NEET Exam 2017 was held on Sunday, May 7 for 65,000 MBBS and 25,000 BDS seats. A total of 11,38,890 students appeared for the exam including 1,522 NRIs and 613 foreigners.
Apart from English and Hindi, the CBSE medical entrance test was held in 10 languages - Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Assamese, Gujarati, Oriya and Kannada.
The Supreme Court bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan and Deepak Gupta on June 9 extended the last date of counselling and admission for medical students to June 15. The bench was hearing a petition by Ashish Ranjan, asking the court to monitor the time frame for conducting the counselling and admission process of medical courses.
