New Delhi : Despite strong opposition from students and political parties from non-BJP ruled states, JEE (Main) for admission to IITs will be held starting today.

The JEE Main exams will be held from September 1 to 6 and NEET for admission in medical colleges will be held on September 13. The conduct of the examinations was cleared by Supreme Court, saying more delay would result in academic year loss for students.

The exams - a crucial event in the academic calendar of lakhs of IIT and medical aspirants - have already been postponed twice.

Last week, NTA had released guidelines which must be followed by the students appearing for the examinations. These include mandatory use of face masks and gloves, as well as carrying individual supplies of hand sanitiser and a water bottle. Candidates will be required to wash their hands with soap and water before entering the exam centre.

The students are also required to pass the thermal screening and self declare that they do not have any symptoms of coronavirus.

As of 6 PM Monday over 12.75 lakh students had downloaded admit cards for NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Exam).
