'Liked by mistake': Akshay Kumar clarifies action on Jamia Millia violence tweet

New Delhi : Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar on Monday clarified that his like on a tweet over Jamia Millia Islamia University violence was by mistake. The 52-year-old actor mentioned that he had unliked the tweet immediately but screenshots were taken within that fraction of seconds.

"Regarding the 'like' on the tweet of Jamia Milia students, it was by mistake. I was scrolling and accidentally it must have been pressed and when I realised I immediately unliked it. As In no way do I support such acts,"Akshay Kumar tweeted this morning.

The tweet which he had accidently liked on Twitter was mocking the police action against the protesting students. It read, "Badhai ho...Jamia mein Azaadi mili hai (congratulations, Jamia has won independence)."

On Sunday, Jamia Millia Islamia University became the epicenter of the protests as the police went inside the campus to pull out the protesting students.

Anger over police action against students has spread to other college campuses including in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai.

100 students were detained from Jamia and released around 3.30 am this morning.
