'The Accidental Prime Minister': Anupam Kher's movie earns decent money on Day 1 at Box Office

New Delhi : The Accidental Prime Minister that stars Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna in the lead roles released amid controversies and fetched a decent figure on Box Office collection on Day 1. According to a report by Box Office India, the film earned Rs 3.50 crores on first day.

“The Accidental Prime Minister grossed a decent 3.50 crore net on day one and again it is helped by the tax changes compared to the films of last year. The film was helped by it being a little controversial which got it some media hype which created awareness,” stated Box Office India report.

The film crossed its paths with Vicky Kaushal's 'URI: The Surgical Strike' which emerged out as a clear cut winner with an earning of Rs 8.25 crores on the opening day.

The Accidental Prime Minister opened to poor reviews both from the critics and the audiences. 

The film is based on the book The Accidental Prime Minister, which has been written by Sanjaya Baru.

The political drama has been directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte. Besides Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna, the film also features Lipstick Under My Burkha actress Aahana Kumra as Priyanka Gandhi, Arjun Mathur as Rahul Gandhi and Suzanne Bernert as Sonia Gandhi.
