Washington : After months of its official release across the world, 'Avengers: Endgame' has finally achieved the dream feat of becoming the world's biggest movie on global box office, surpassing James Cameron’s Avatar. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the news was announced by Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige himself at the ongoing San Diego Comic-Con 2019.

As per last reported figures, the 'Avengers: Endgame' had earned 2.7892 billion dollars, around 50,000 dollars behind Avatar. The gap is now closed and will be confirmed once the weekend numbers are in.

A statement from Disney Studios co-chairman and chief creative officer Alan Horn read, "A huge congratulations to the Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Studios teams, and thank you to the fans around the world who lifted Avengers: Endgame to these historic heights."

The film has opened to a brilliant 1.2 billion dollar global weekend opening, it was expected that the movie will become the biggest in no time, but a decrease in earnings left movie a little less than the intended feat. The re-release by the makers, however, did the job for the movie.

Endgame was re-released in select markets by Marvel Studios to chiefly promote Spider-Man: Far From Home. It began first in the United States on June 28 and has been since then extended to some other select markets, including India. There was also six minutes of additional content bundled with the re-release.
