Starring Sanjay Dutt as an antagonist, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3 will be an average affair at the box office

Mumbai : The big Bollywood release this week is Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster 3. Starring Sanjay Dutt, the film is directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia. It is the third installment of the Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster franchise which also stars Jimmy Shergill, Mahi Gill, Deepak Tijori, Chitrangada Singh, Soha Ali Khan, Kabir Bedi and Nafisa Ali among others.

Talking to Press Trust of India director Tigmanshu said, “The story has become bigger. The characters of Biwi and Saheb have matured. Even the haveli you saw in previous films has improved. The class has improved.”

He recently opened up about the Sanjay Dutt in an interview with PTI saying that the movie's characters are one of its strongest points. “You will get well-developed characters who cannot be described as simple in this film. You will get to listen to good language in these films. We have maintained all these things," Dhulia said.

For now, it is expected that the Sanjay Dutt starrer movie will make average business in the box-office. Trade analyst Girish Johar said, “Despite being a franchise film and starring Sanjay Dutt as an antagonist, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3 will be an average affair at the box office. The songs and the trailer of the film hint at only an average start. It might earn Rs 2.5 crore on its day of release.” The film is likely to face tough competition from Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter starrer Dhadak and the blockbuster of the year Sanju which is still attracting people to cinema halls and now targeting milestone of Rs 350 crore.

Film critic Shubhra Gupta said in her review of Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster, "The weakest link is Sanjay Dutt’s gangster, who feels grafted on to the landscape. He gets a whistle-worthy introduction, and an appropriately louche setting (a London nightclub with pole dancers and dark-eyed hoods), but his return to the UP homestead, and his ghagra-twirling mistress (Singh) is the beginning of the end of the film."

In an exclusive interview, Jimmy Shergill, a lead actor in the film said, "The first SBG was more compact, the story just centred around the three characters; the second was a little bigger — Irrfan (Khan) played the gangster and came with his back story. In the third one, we have gone to another level, the story, of course, picks up from where I am in jail. Time has elapsed, and the biwi (played by Mahie Gill) has become much more powerful. With Sanjay (Dutt) playing the gangster, you don’t get bigger than that."

“I have never played such a character. This is different from the one you saw in Vaastav or Kaante. This gangster is an educated person who lives far away from his family. I am happy that Tigmanshu thought of me for this role,” Sanjay Dutt told PTI.

So, if you have not booked ticket for Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3, then get set to book now. You never know the cinema halls may increase ticket fare anytime from now onwards.
