Actor Arvind Trivedi, who played the iconic character of Raavan in Ramayan, passes away

Mumbai : Actor Arvind Trivedi is known for playing an iconic character of Raavan in Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan. He passed away on Tuesday night after suffering a heart-attack. He was staying ill from long time due to age-related illness.

Trivedi's nephew confirmed the news to the Indian Express and said that his health deteriorated in last few months and passed away on Tuesday night at 9:30 pm at his residence.

His body was later cremated at Dahanukar Wadi cremation ground in Kandivali on Wednesday morning.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his tribute to the actor. Calling him an ‘exceptional actor’, Modi said he was also passionate about public work and he will be remembered for generations for his work in Ramayan.

Actor Dipika, who had played the role of goddess Sita in the same TV serial, said he was a fine man and expressed her ‘heart felt condolences’ for the actor’s family.

Apart from Ramayan, he had also acted in Vikram Aur Betaal. In his career spanning 30 years in the Gujarati film industry he did almost 300 films. Later he became the acting chairman of the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) from 2002 to 2003.
