New Delhi : Famous TV serial Mahabharat actor Gufi Paintal, best known for playing the character of Shakuni Mama on the show, passed away at an age of 79 years due to age-related ailments. His son Harry Paintal announced the news of his demise.

"With profound grief, we announce the sad demise of our father Mr. Gufu Paintal (Shakuni Mama). He passed away peacefully this morning surrounded by family," his son said.

Gufi Paintal was suffering from age-related issues, mainly impacting his heart and kidneys. According to reports, his cremation has been scheduled for Monday evening.

Due to deteriorating health condition, he was admitted to the hospital on May 30. But, his condition worsened in the following days and on Monday morning he took his last breath.

Actress Nimrat Kaur took to social media to mourn the demise of Gufi Paintal. She wrote, “Forever the indelible Shakuni Mama from our childhood days…such stellar contribution to the Indian cinematic landscape. Prayers and strength to the family. Rest in peace Gufi Paintal ji 🙏🏼 #RIPGufiPaintal”.



Apart from his character in Mahabharat, he has also done acting in famous shows like 'Kanoon', 'Om Namah Shivay', 'CID', 'Ssshhhh…Koi Hai', 'Dwarkadheesh Bhagwaan Shree Krishn', 'RadhaKrishn' and 'Jay Kaniya lal Ki'.
