Mughalsarai station gets new name, saffron makeover

Lucknow : The iconic Mughalsarai Junction railway station in Uttar Pradesh will formally get a new name after RSS ideologue Deen Dayal Uphadyay on Sunday.

BJP president Amit Shah, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will flag off a passenger train and a goods train with an all-woman crew, and also launch a "smart yard" project at the century-old station on the busy Delhi-Howrah route.

The railway station has been painted saffron at places and signboards with the new name being put up.

The Mughalsarai station will be named after Deen Dayal Uphadyay because he was found dead at the station under mysterious circumstances.

On paper, Mughalsarai station got a new name after Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik gave his assent to the proposal in June.

Mughalsarai is also the birthplace of former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.

This will be the first time when an all-women crew will run a goods train in India.
