The name of Railway stations in Uttarakhand will now be written in Sanskrit instead of Urdu, said the Railway authorities.

After increasing food cost in premium trains like Rajdhani Express and Shatabdi Express, the Indian Railways have hiked the price of food on the regular Mail/Express trains.

There could be occasions when one passenger could not find a direct train to his destination and needs to take connecting trains. To make the process more convenient, IRCTC has introduced a new option where a traveller can link his PNR numbers to claim easy refunds in case of missing the second train due to a delay in the first train.

Indian Railways has hiked the prices for tea, food and other meals on Rahdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains.

After 100 days of being shut in the Jammu and Kashmir, Indian Railways on Monday resumed its train services in the state. Just before the announcement on Article 370 by the Centre, the train services were stopped in the apprehension of the law and order situation.

The government is in the process of forming a panel who will look after the blueprints for handing over operations of 150 trains and 50 railway stations to private operators in a "time-bound manner".

The railways run the train on Sundays from Delhi to Attari and back, while Pakistan used to run the train between Lahore and Attari. Passengers used to change trains at the Attari station.

For the first time in history, Indian Railways will be allowing a private player to operate two trains, including Delhi Lucknow Tejas Express, said a PTI report. The development comes even as the Railways moves ahead with its 100-day agenda released under the newly-formed government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

After option to give up gas subsidy, the government is now planning to encourage the train passengers to give up their train ticket subsidy. As part of the 100-day roadmap prepared by the Railway Board, the national transporter is looking to rationalise passenger fares.

Days after receiving flak from the public and politicians, the Indian Railways has decided to drop the proposal of massage to passengers on board the trains.
