Mumbai : During the course of crossing tracks, a local train mowed down four youngsters from a family. The train was crossing tracks between Borivli and Kandivli railway stations early on Monday, an official said.

The unfortunate incident occurred around 5.30 am, when the four victims were returning home from their native place in Kankavali, in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district, a Western Railway (WR) spokesperson said.

The deceased youngsters have been identified as Sagar S Chavan, 23, Saiprasad M Chavan, 17, and his brother Dattaprasad M Chavan, 20, and Manoj D Chavan, 17.

Police confirms that the local train had halted between the two stations at a signal, when the four men decided to jump down with the home to reach home quickly. As they hopped off and were crossing the tracks, they were knocked down and run over by another local train coming from the opposite direction.

The four people were rushed to Dr BR Ambedkar Hospital in Kandivli, where they were declared dead on admission.

RJ Bhise, investigating officer, Borivli railway police, said the bodies have been taken for autopsy, and a case of accidental deaths has been registered as the families do not suspect any foul play.
