Kolkata : Shocking news reveals that a 46-year-old man chopped up his mother’s body after her death, stored the body parts inside a giant refrigerator and then sealed up the ground-floor room with two air-conditioners, creating a tomb for his mom. The incident has been reported from Behala neighbourhood in Kolkata.

Identified as Subhabrata Majumdar, this man went on living with his mother’s dead body and his 89-year-old father for almost three years now.

Police raid his home on Thursday, after a hint was given by the neighbours and a local news channel. Kolkata police arrested Subhabrata Majumdar and questioned his ill father, Gopal Chandra Majumdar, but the answers they got were as confusing as the questions. Subhabrata told cops that he believed his mother could be brought back to life and his dad said he “just went along” with his son’s belief.

Investigators also believe that there may be financial angle after recovering a “living certificate” from the Majumdars’ home and locality rumours that Subhabrata went on withdrawing his mother’s pension even after her death in 2015. Police said they had asked help from a nationalised bank’s New Alipore branch and would want to know whether Subhabrata went on presenting his mother’s thumb impression to withdraw the monthly pension, which is around Rs 30,000.

It is believed that Subhabrata  is a graduate in leather technology used his college education in clinically freezing his mother’s body for almost exactly three years in such a way that the neighbourhood got no smell of what was inside the ground-floor room. He also employed the services of “doms” who handle bodies at morgues and crematoriums, to chop out the internal organs for better preservation.

According to the certificate issued by the Behala Balananda Brahmachari Hospital, his 84-year-old mother, Bina Majumdar, passed away at 9.55am on April 7, 2015 due to “severe hypoglycaemia. The body was brought back to the family’s James Long Sarani home, near the Gholsapur Railway Colony, the same day.The entire story turned away from the normal and deviated towards horrid from this point. 

Police said on Thursday they had found a cut mark on Bina’s dead body, suggesting it might have been sliced and the pancreas and the intestines were taken out for better preservation.

The incident has brought another house into limelight where 40 years-old Partho De stayed with the rotten bodies of his sister and two pet dogs for six months before being exposed. The horror house is located at Robinson Street in Kolkata.
