New Delhi : Despite lockdown imposed, the number of positive coronavirus cases in India is on a continuous rise. On Monday 227 new Covid-19 infection cases were registered, making it the sharpest spike in a single day till date.

The total number of coronavirus cases has reached 1,251, health ministry data showed. It includes 102 people who have been cured and 32 who lost their lives.

In terms of states, Delhi saw the biggest jump with 25 people getting infected with the coronavirus, the total toll in Delhi stands at 97.

Meanwhile, the government has claimed that the coronavirus is still in the local transmission stage. Earlier today, the government also denied "rumours and media reports" about an extension of the lockdown, saying it was "baseless".

"Nowhere are we calling it community transmission. We are still in the local transmission stage. If we use the word 'community' then there is speculation," said Luv Agarwal of the Indian Council of Medical Research.

The Finance Ministry, on the other hand, announced that the financial year has not been extended and all the news around it is fake news. "A notification issued by the Government of India on 30th March 2020 with respect to some other amendments done in the Indian Stamp Act is being misquoted," read a statement from the ministry.

Over 750,000 people have been infected with the virus across the world with more than 35000 deaths officially registered.
