47 dead as bus skids off to a canal in Sidhi, 7 passengers saved
New Delhi : The rescue work in Sidhi bus accident has concluded, said Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh. He mentioned that a total of 24 men, 20 women and 1 child bodies have been recovered from the canal.
The rescue operation was carried out after stopping water supply from the nearby dam. So far, it has been claimed that the reason of accident was driver’s loss of control over the vehicle.
The bus fell in a canal in Sidhi on Tuesday. 47 people lost their lives in the tragic incident. 7 passengers saved their lives by swimming off the canal.
Meanwhile, CM Shivraj Singh has announced a compensation of Rs 5-5 lakh to the family of each deceased and PM Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2-2 lakh.
The bus was going from Sidhi to Satna when it met with the accident; Shivraj Singh and other officials monitored the rescue operations themselves.
The bus had registration number Mp19p 1882, it has a fitness certificate valid upto 2-5-21 and the bus permit is valid till 12-5-25.
Other crucial information about the bus
The bus was overloaded as it has a seating capacity of 32+2 but 56 passengers were travelling in it. Also, it was not following the time schedule and route. It was scheduled to leave from Sidhi at 5am but it left at around 3 am in the morning; later driver also changed the route of the bus to avoid traffic jam.
