New Delhi : Justice Leila Seth, first woman justice for Delhi High Court, passed away on Friday night in Noida. She was 86-year-old.

She took her last breath at around 10:30 pm after suffering a cardio respiratory attack.

# Late Leila Seth was survived by her husband, two sons, including well-known writer Vikram Seth, and a daughter.

# She was born in Lucknow in 1930.

# Was selected as an IAS officer in 1959, but joined London Bar to shape herself in a legal career.

# Started her law practice in 1959 in Patna

# In 1978, she became the first woman judge of the Delhi High Court.

# In 1991, she was appointed the first woman Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court. 

# She was a member of the Law Commission of India from 1997 to 2000 and was also responsible for recommending the amendments to the Hindu Succession Act which gave equal rights to daughters in joint family property.

# She wrote a biography about her early life in 2003, titled as "On Balance".

# In 2010, she wrote another book "We, The Children of India" for young readers.

# In 2014, she wrote "Talking of Justice: People's Rights in Modern India", in which she discusses several critical issues she has dealt with in her expansive legal career.

Justice Seth played major role in shaping the law in our country, she will always be remembered for her participation.
