AQIS threatens attacks on India over murder of gangster Atiq Ahmed

New Delhi : Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) has issued a threat to carry out attacks on India in retaliation for the murder of gangster Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf. The terror group called the brothers "martyrs" in their Eid message, and promised to "liberate Muslims" in their 7-page magazine released by the propaganda media wing of Al-Qaeda, As-Sahab.

The brothers were shot dead by three men posing as journalists while they were being escorted to a medical college for a checkup by police personnel. The incident occurred in the middle of a media interaction, with camera crews capturing the shocking event as it unfolded. The AQIS expressed outrage over the killing of the brothers who were in custody at the time of their murder.

India is now on high alert following the threat from the AQIS, and security measures have been intensified to prevent any potential terrorist attacks.

Atiq Ahmed Murder

On Saturday, while being taken to the hospital by the police for a medical checkup, Atiq Ahmed and former state legislator Ashraf Ahmed were shot at multiple times by gunmen who seemed to have disguised themselves as journalists, according to authorities. Following the shooting, three suspects promptly surrendered to the police. At least one of the suspects was heard chanting "Jai Shri Ram," a slogan that has become a rallying cry for Hindu nationalists in their anti-Muslim campaign.
