Army Major kills officer's wife after she refuses to marry

New Delhi : An Army Major has been arrested for allegedly killing his colleague's wife after she refused to marry him.

Shailja Dwivedi's body was found with her throat slit on a road in Delhi Cantonment.

Major Nikhil Handa has been taken into custody from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. "He is being interrogated. The motive behind the murder is still unknown," said a police official.

Major Handa had met Shailja two months back in Nagaland where he was posted with with his colleague major.

Nikhil Handa is believed to be a prime suspect as he was the last person to be seen with her. A CCTV footage showed both Shailja and Handa seated inside a Honda City car, police said. “After that Handa went missing and his phone was switched off. He was held in Meerut in the same car,” a police official privy to the case said.

Shailja’s body was spotted by a passerby. The husband later went to Naraina Police station to lodge a missing complaint where he identified the body.
