Blue Aadhaar Card for children: All you need to know

New Delhi : The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Saturday introduced a new blue-coloured Aadhaar Card for children below the age of five years; calling it Baal Aadhaar.
"For children below 5 years no biometrics will be captured. Their UID be processed on the basis of demographic information and facial photograph linked with the UID of their parents. These children will need to update their biometrics of ten fingers, iris, and facial photograph, when they turn 5 and 15. Intimation to this effect will be mentioned in the original Aadhaar letter," UIDAI said.

What is Baal Aadhaar or Blue Aadhaar Card?
A government ID, based on Aadhaar card, issued to children below five years is known as Blue Aadhaar card or Baal Aadhaar. The new ID will be issued on the basis of parents Aadhaar card.
Colour of Baal Aadhaar Card - To make it look different from the traditional one, the authorities have decided to give it a blue tone.
Mandatory rule - After a child turns five years old, it is mandatory to update the Aadhaar Card with his biometric identities. A second biometric update is mandatory when the child turns 15 years old.

Cost of Biometric update: All biometric updates at the age of five and 15 will be free for the parents.
Aadhaar has become mandatory to avail government schemes and other activities such as opening bank accounts.
