New Delhi : CBSE is investigating if there is, actually, a need to re-set the Class X Maths exam. And, if required the re-exam of Class X Maths paper will be restricted to Delhi-NCR and Haryana students only. The decision for class 10 maths re-examination is on hold and will be declared soon within 15 days. As of now, the board has announced that CBSE Class XII Economics re-exam will be held on April 25.

The CBSE said its preliminary investigations so far indicate that the area affected by the Class X Maths leak is limited to Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida and Haryana, and the leaked paper is assumed to have been shared over WhatsApp and other social media. The test, if scheduled, will be conducted in the month of July.

The decision on the Class X re-exam did little to relaxed the anxiety of students, parents and teachers who are affected with the CBSE leak news. Also, if the exam is held in July then there will be delay in results by two months for students in Delhi-NCR and Haryana. Usually, the CBSE results for class 10 is declared by May end. In the meantime, there is concern over the possibility of the re-examination being held as late as July.

It seems that there is a difference in opinion between the CBSE and human resource development ministry over whether there should be a re-test for Class X students. There is a view that accepting the result of a leaked paper will grind down the credibility of the exam and the board.

In a press conference, CBSE chairperson Anita Karwal and school education secretary Anil Swarup said there were reports of more papers having leaked but there is no proof to support the claims. On the leaked Maths paper reaching the CBSE chairperson’s office the evening before the exam, he said a mail was sent at 1.29am which Karwal saw at 8.55am on the day of the test. It was 10 am before contents were confirmed. It would have been unwise to cancel the test and cause panic.
