Citizenship bill in Lok Sabha today, heated debate likely
New Delhi : As Citizenship Bill is set to be tabled in the Lok Sabha on Monday, it is likely that the house will witness heated debate among the difference in opinions among the leaders of different political parties.
There are different thoughts on Bill over its criteria of dividing the citizens based on religion. While parties like Congress, TMC, SMK, SP, BSP and RJD are opposing the clause, the BJP has been firm on the continuing process on Non-Muslim population since partition.
The Citizenship Bill is likely to cross the numeric hurdle in Lok Sabha with an ease as the Bharatiya Janata Party enjoys a clear majority in the house; while the real test of the Bill will be in the Rajya Sabha were parties like BJD, AIADMK and a few others are likely to be the hindrance in the smooth passage of the bill.
After the bill gets clearance in the Lok Sabha, it will be tabled in the Rajya Sabha on the following day. If, the bill gets cleared in Rajya Sabha too then it will be another landmark bill by the BJP-NDA government after the triple talaq Bill and special status for J&K.
