New Delhi : Rahul Gandhi led Bharat Jodo Yatra is currently passing through Punjab. Can you sad news Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary has passed away due to heart attack during the Bharat Jodo Yatra this morning. He was 76 years old.

Santokh Singh Chaudhary, who is an MP from Jalandhar, collapsed during the foot march in Punjab's Phillaur. He was instantly taken to the hospital in Phagwada in an ambulance but he was later declared dead.

Rahul Gandhi, who is leading the March, left the yatra in between and rushed to the hospital where the senior Congress MP was taken. He is not likely to meet the family members of the MP in Jalandhar later today.

Sharing the news, Mr Gandhi shared a photo collage from today’s yatra in which Mr Chaudhary can be seen walking besides him and other party members.

For now, the yatra has been suspended as the cremation of the leader has been scheduled for tomorrow morning. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also controlled the death of Mr Chaudhary, saying he will be remembered for all his efforts to serve the people of Punjab.

"Pained by the passing away of MP Shri Santokh Singh Chaudhary Ji. He will be remembered for his efforts to serve the people of Punjab. Condolences to his family and supporters. Om Shanti," PM Modi tweeted.

Santokh Singh Chaudhary had won the Lok Sabha elections twice, first 10, 1014 and later in 2019. His son Vikramjeet Singh Chaudhary is a Congress MLA from Phillaur assembly constituency in Punjab.
