China admits around 60,000 coronavirus related deaths in a month

New Delhi : China had been adamant over the fact that they were no COVID-related deaths in the past couple of weeks as stated in the world media, but now the country has admitted that over 60,000 people were killed due to Corona virus related health problems in just over a month.

China recorded 59,938 Covid-related deaths between December 8, 2022 and January 12 this year, Jiao Yahui, head of the Bureau of Medical Administration under the National Health Commission, told a press conference.

It must be noted that the figure indicates only deaths happened at the medical facilities and with this the real figure of deaths should be much more higher.

Out of these states, 5503 dads are caused due to respiratory failure and over 54,000 deaths are caused due to combined COVID and respiratory issues.

At the World stage, China has been accused many times for underreporting its death count with due to Corona virus since the inception of its zero COVID policy.

China had claimed that they have revised its methodology for categorising COVID related deaths, saying it would count to only those deaths which happened due to respiratory failure.

The World Health Organization had criticised the methodology and had said that the definition was "too narrow".

On Saturday, the Chinese health official said that the average age of those who died due to coronavirus was over 80 years.

China suffered a surge in the coronavirus cases due to the Omicron Subvariant BF.7. After which, several nations had imposed new travel conditions for the passengers coming from China.
