Congress must be ashamed of P Chidambaram: BJP
New Delhi : Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday targeted Congress party over P Chidambaram not surrendering before the CBI in a corruption case against him. They said the latter must be ashamed of its leader who has turned into an absconder after Delhi High Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea in the matter.
A look out notice has been issued against P Chidambaram by the investigative agencies – CBI and ED – after they failed to arrest him at his residence on Tuesday evening.
P Chidambaram "wants to join the ranks of Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi," said GVL Narasimha Rao, the BJP spokesperson, citing names of wanted men the Congress has so far used as ammunition to attack the BJP.
Congress on the other hand alleged Bharatiya Janata Party of misusing the power. Rahul Gandhi tagged the development as "disgraceful misuse of power", his sister Priyanka Gandhi said the former minister was being "shamefully hunted down".
Chidambaram has been accused of facilitating a huge infusion of foreign funds into a television company, INX Media, in 2007 on the behest of his son Karti Chidambaram, who allegedly received kickbacks for this. At the time, he was the country's finance minister in the UPA government.
