New Delhi : India has become the 17th nation in the world to have over 20,000 coronavirus cases; this comes after Maharashtra, Rajasthan and West Bengal recorded their highest single-day jump in the number of COVID-19 infections. A spike in the total number of deaths has also been registered; adding 49 new deaths, India now has 645 casualties.

On Tuesday night, India had total count of 20,083 coronavirus cases. The total number of cases jumped by 1,493 – second highest single day jump till date. Mumbai in Maharashtra alone reported 419 cases and 12 deaths.

Rajasthan (159) and West Bengal (53) also registered sharp spikes in the number of cases by states tally.

Gujarat turned into the hotspot after Maharashtra as it registered more than 2,000 cases, taking the second spot on the states tally.

Maharashtra's total coronavirus cases tally stands at 5000, of which 1000 have been reported in just two days. Over 1 lakh people are under home quarantine.

Meanwhile, other Indian states registered moderate spike in the number of coronavirus cases.
