Coronavirus: Curfew extended till May 17 in Uttar Pradesh

New Delhi : Amid rising cases of coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh, the authorities have decided to extend the curfew in state till May 17. The previous curfew was set to end on Monday morning.

On April 29, the state government had announced that the weekend lockdowns will also cover Mondays. Most of the states in India have opted for lockdown or night curfew to break the chain of coronavirus transmission.

In the neighbouring national capital, the lockdown has also been extended for another week with stricter restrictions.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said a massive coronavirus vaccination drive will be initiated for 18-44 years age group in the state from May 10. He added that 45 lakh vaccines have been administered to people above the age of 45 years.

The second wave of coronavirus has truck India hard as more and more people are turning positive for coronavirus infection.

More than 4 lakh people are testing positive daily from past two weeks. India reported 4,03,738 new COVID-19 cases and over 4000 related deaths in the last 24 hours. With this, the cumulative national tally of the infection went up to 2,22,96,414, the union health ministry informed on Sunday morning.
