Punjab : A Punjab man who died on March 18 has been tested positive to the Coronavirus, it is believed that he was the source of infection for 23 people out of total 33 cases in the state.

The 70-year-old man, a Gurudwara priest, had returned from a two-week tour of Germany and Italy with two friends from neighbouring villages; instead of going into a quarantine he kept his daily routine on and met several people earlier this month.

He came back to India on March 6 in Delhi and then drove to Punjab.

The officials who are tracking his movement learned that the man had attended an event at Anandpur Sahib in March 8-10 before returning to his village in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district.

According to the officials, he came in contact with at least 100 people before testing positive for the coronavirus. He and his two travel companions are believed to have visited 15 villages across the state.

In his family, 14 have tested positive. His granddaughter and grandson each met scores of people.

The officials are now trying to trace down each and every person they may have contacted during the extensive socializing of the three men.

It is believed that the three caused coronavirus positive cases in Nawanshahr, Mohali, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar.

India has registered more than 700 cases and 17 deaths till date.
