New Delhi : Coronavirus second wave is not slowing down. India has registered another peak in daily cases with 4.12 lakh people getting infected with COVID-19 on Thursday. The nation also registered 3,980 deaths in the same time frame.

States like Assam, West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand have registered growth in both daily cases and deaths, indicating that the infection is now moving towards eastern part of the country.

Twelve states, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, and Uttar Pradesh, have more than a lakh active COVID-19 cases each, according to the government.

On Thursday, Maharashtra recorded a peak in its death toll with 920 people losing their lives to coronavirus within 24 hours. The state currently has 6.41 lakh active cases.

Karnataka on Wednesday reported in its single-largest spike (more than 50,000 cases) since the start of the pandemic -- nearly half of them in capital Bengaluru.

India accounted for 46% of global cases and 25% of global deaths reported in the past week, the World Health Organization said on Wednesday.
