Cyclone Sagar: IMD issues fresh alert for Karnataka

Bangalore : The IMD on Saturday issued a fresh alert for Karnataka over cyclone Sagar that is likely to make a landfall this week. An advisory has also been issued to four more states – Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Goa and Maharashtra.

Following its impact, the IMD has also predicted thunderstorms, strong winds in different parts of the country including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, and parts of North West India.

The cyclonic storm lay centered over the Gulf of Aden, about 390 km east-northeast of Yemen’s Aden city and 560 km west-northwest of Socotra Islands.

Fishermen have also been advised to not step into areas near Gulf of Aden. Gale winds speed reaching 70-80 kilometers per hour gusting to 90 kmph are very likely around the system centre covering Gulf of Aden and adjoining areas of west central and southwest Arabian Sea during the next 24 hours and gradually decrease thereafter.
