HD Kumaraswamy to take oath as Karnataka CM on May 23
Bangalore : HD Kumaraswamy, Janata Dal Secular's leader, will be taking oath as Karnataka Chief Minister on May 23.
Following a resignation by BS Yeddyurappa, Governor Vajubhai Vala invited Kumaraswamy to form next government in Karnataka. “The Governor has invited me to form the next government as the leader of the JD-S legislative party with the support of the Congress, which is our alliance partner,” Kumaraswamy told the media outside the Raj Bhavan.
The oath-taking ceremony was first scheduled for Monday (May 21), but was later postponed to Wednesday following death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
The JD(S) leader also said that Governor Vala has given him 15 days to prove majority in the 224-member legislative assembly.
Celebrations broke out at Congress office as BJP's BS Yeddyurappa resigned from the post of CM resulting in collapse of BJP government in the state in mere three days. "Our cadres celebrated the victory of democracy by breaking hundreds of coconuts minutes after Yeddyurappa resigned and the three-day BJP government fell," Congress spokesman Ravi Gowda told IANS.
