Election goofup: Maharashtra woman finds she 'died again' as she went to vote

Mumbai : It is not new when the voting list has been found not updated with the latest data. Particularly, in the case of Manjula Modi as she found that she has 'died again' as the Bandra resident went to cast her votes along with her husband on Monday morning.

This happens to be the second time when Manjula has not found her name on the voters list; last time when she had gone to cast her vote, the officials had told her that her name has been struck off as she 'apparently' died. She was asked to re-register with the election commission so that she can vote in future.

According to a news report, Manjula Modi re-registered herself as a voter by paying four visits to the election commission office; she had also received a new voter ID 15 days ago, but only to find that she is again not on the list.

It looks like the voters list available at the polling booth was not updated.

The state, overall, recorded abysmal voter turnout. Maharashtra has recorded 44% voter turnout till 3 pm for the elections to its 288-seat Assembly. Polling began at 7 am today and will continue till 6 pm. According to the Met department, it may rain in many parts of Maharashtra today, but till now there were no such reports.
