Five unique things about Kerala metro that starts from June 17

Kochi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated Kochi Metro that is also the first ever metro rail service that has multi-model transport system in India.

The train services gets interesting with more interesting firsts attached to it. Let's check them out:

1. Kochi will be the first Indian city to have a 'water metro' which will be the feeder service to the rail metro. That's what will make it India's first integrated multi-model transport system.

2: For the first time government agency will be hiring transgenders. Nearly 23 people will start their jobs from the inauguration day itself.

3: This will be India's first metro service that will extensively use solar panel to power itself.

4: The Kochi Metro plans to meet 25 percent of its electricity needs from solar power.

5. In another likely first, the metro network will use compost generated from municipal waste to fertilize the vertical garden it plans to maintain on some of its pillars.
