Flight services for West Bengal suspended till July 29

Kolkata : No flights will operate to and from West Bengal till July 29 due to complete lockdown announced by the state to contain the surging coronavirus cases, announced Kolkata Airport officials.

On Thursday evening, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed disappointment over the fact that the flights were one of the reasons behind increasing number of coronavirus cases in the state.

Notably, the West Bengal government had imposed a bi-weekly total lockdown, Thursday (July 23), Saturday (July 25) and Wednesday (July 29) this month, in order to keep in check the rising COVID-19 numbers and conduct thorough sanitisation work on these days.

Expressing disappointment over the air travel and threats of spike in coronavirus cases, Mamata Banerjee had requested the aviation ministry to cancel air travel in the state from 25th to 29th of the current month.
