New Delhi : We all want to live a healthy long life and this is why we try to eat healthy and maintain a healthy lifestyle to maintain our body. It is important to care for our body in order to live a long life. Staying fit is not an easy task but maintaining a healthy diet can help us achieve our fitness goals. Health, fitness and long-lasting life are interconnected and diet plays an important role in this. Research says that a high protein diet can reduce the risk of death and increase our lifespan.
Now, when we think about a high protein diet, we instantly think of a diet full of meat, chicken and eggs but a study says that consuming plant-based protein is healthy for our body. We can get protein from plant-based food items like whole grains, legumes and nuts and these things are known to reduce the risk of chronic health conditions like diabetes, blood pressure and even heart diseases.
High intake of animal protein from foods like red meat can be harmful to our health in the long-run. A study published in the BMJ has liked this to serious health conditions and problems. Researchers from Iran and the US have studied the correlation between the intake of animal and plant-based protein and diseases like cardiovascular disease, and cancer. “These findings have important public health implications as intake of plant protein can be increased relatively easily by replacing animal protein and could have a large effect on longevity. While further studies are required, these findings strongly support the existing dietary recommendations to increase consumption of plant proteins in the general population.” the researchers said.
