Freight train runs at 100km/h without locomotive operator from Kathua towards Pathankot

New Delhi : A disturbing event unfolded in Punjab as a freight train, which had been stationary at Kathua station in Jammu and Kashmir, unexpectedly started moving downhill towards Pathankot without a designated locomotive operator on board.
According to a report by news agency ANI, the driverless train was successfully brought to a halt near Ucchi Bassi in Mukerian, Punjab after significant efforts by railway officials.
Watch video of the moving train below:
A big relief came with the fact that no other train was on its way as the driverless train ran for around 80 kilometres before being brought to a halt.
It has been learned that the driver had got down to take a sip of tea; by the time he came back the train started running downhill as no hand breaks were applied in the engine.
An inquiry in the matter has been initiated.
