New Delhi : Former chief minister Harish Rawat paid a visit to Joshimath on Monday (January 9) which has been sinking from past couple of days. The situation in the town has been worsening with every passing day the the cracks in the houses which started from one or 2 inches have grown up to 8 and 9 inches which has clearly raised eyebrows.

Mr Rawat has blamed NTPC Tunnel construction work behind this horrific incident happening at the Joshimath.

Amid reports of generating cracks, It has been learned that 2 hotels - Mallari in and Mountain View - may also fall down in coming days if the situation persists.

Harish Rawat statement on Joshimath

Mr Rawat, after visiting Joshimath, said that the condition has aroused due to NTPC tunnel construction work for the Chardham Yatra. He also claimed that this situation should be considered as natural disaster and the residents must be provided benefits like Badrinath and Kedarnath incidents.

The locals have claimed that blasts done for the NTPC tunnel construction are among the prime reasons behind this land destruction. But, NTPC in a written notice has assured that there were no blasts done till date. Instead, they are using boring machines for the tunnel construction.
