Himachal under heavy blanket of snow, North braces for more cold
Los Angeles : Whole North India waits for snow on mountains during the winter months and their wishes have come true.
Complete Himachal Pradesh has been under heavy snowfall greeting people in tourist places like Manali and Dharamsala. The whole belt has come to a standstill causing the northern region to witness an intense cold wave.
Other areas of the North like Uttar Pradesh and adjoining NCR region are facing low temperatures due to heavy rainfall at some places.
In future days more showers and dense fog are expected in the region, says Indian meteorological department.
The visibility dropped to below 10 metres at some places. Rain also lashed in other parts of region like Palampur, Solan, Nahan, Bilaspur, Una, Hamirpur and Mandi.
WARNING asking tourists not to venture into remote areas have been issued as chances of heavy snow were high.
Shimla and Manali faced electricity failures and disrupted traffic services.
Certain areas like Mall Road, the Ridge, the US Club and Jakhu hills have accumulated more than a foot of snow.
Speaking to media, Director General of Police Somesh Goyal said it was after decades that Shimla received so much of snow.
In fact areas surrounding the official residences of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and some of the state cabinet members too had no electricity because of massive power failure.
Seeing the power disruptions and administrative unpreparedness, the chief minister had also expressed displeasure in dealing with snowfall.
