New Delhi : In response to reports of difficulties faced by PAN holders in downloading the challan after paying the fee for linking Aadhaar, the income tax department took to Twitter on Friday to address the matter.

The deadline for linking PAN and Aadhaar cards expired yesterday, prompting concerns among individuals who encountered problems accessing the challan.

The tax department's tweet assured PAN holders that they can check the status of their Aadhaar-PAN linking challan payment by logging into the portal and navigating to the 'e-pay tax' tab after logging in.

Furthermore, the department acknowledged individuals who have paid the fee for linking PAN with Aadhaar and have received consent, but are still awaiting action. It stated that such cases would be taken into consideration before rendering the PAN inoperative. It is important to note that an inoperative PAN can have tax and banking implications.

The department also clarified that there is no need to download the challan receipt for PAN-Aadhaar linking. Instead, upon successful completion of payment, an email containing a copy of the challan is automatically sent to the PAN holder.

To provide further clarity, the income tax department shared a tweet regarding the matter, which can be accessed through the following link: Twitter link.

The law mandating the linking of PAN with Aadhaar was implemented on July 1, 2017. Until March 31 of the previous year, no fines were imposed for failing to link both cards.

For individuals who have failed to link their Aadhaar and PAN by June 30, 2022, but still wish to do so at a later date, they can inform the tax authorities. However, they will need to pay the required penalty in order to complete the linking process.
