Kabul : Indian Air Force plane C-17 that had gone to Kabul to rescue Indian Embassy staff, has started its return journey from Kabul to India with 120 Indians on board.

"Indian Air Force C-17 aircraft has taken off from Kabul with more than 120 Indian officials in it. The staff was brought inside the secure areas of the airport safely, late last evening," reported news agency ANI.



The IAF has planned to airlift the stranded Indians in Afghanistan with immediate effects. "In view of the prevailing circumstances, it has been decided that our Ambassador in Kabul and his Indian staff will move to India immediately," said MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi.



India has around 500 of its officials and security staff stranded in Afghanistan.
